Youstina Youssif, a Year 12 Hospitality student, is the Winner of the 2014 Western Sydney Regional VET in Schools Student of the Year Award.
Youstina has been an outstanding Hospitality student both in the classroom and in the workplace.
“There are several reasons why I chose to do Hospitality at school, but the main reason was to gain skills and knowledge to hopefully, one day fulfil a family dream of opening a restaurant and a cupcake shop”, said Youstina.
At St Andrews College students study VET Hospitality and upon completion achieve Certificate II in Hospitality. Youstina believes that the course has prepared her with the relevant skills and knowledge to meet customer expectations. The course also enables students to understand and comply with relevant legislation that applies to the hospitality industry.
Students at St Andrews College not only perfect their practical skills in their VET courses but they also develop sound knowledge to include the subject in their HSC ATAR.
“Over Year 11 and 12 Youstina continued to improve in the theory component of VET Hospitality and in her Half Yearly Exam she achieved 95% and is currently ranked first in the course”, said her Hospitality Teacher Mrs Carmen Barbara.
Youstina believes her work placement equipped her with the practical skills and the workplace knowledge she needs in order to achieve a high degree of competency to work successful in the hospitality industry.
She is an exemplary student who has been able to transfer the skills and knowledge gained in Hospitality to all aspects of her learning. Youstina will now represent the Western Sydney Region interviews for the NSW VET in Schools Student of the Year Award in July.
