2016 Captivate Drama Showcase

On Friday the 17th and Monday the 20th of June Captivate Drama students were involved in the Drama Showcase held at Nagle College.

An appreciative audience enjoyed various productions from various Hub Schools and Primary Schools, with students from St Andrews College also participating as part of the Senior Drama Ensemble.

The Senior Drama Ensemble looks at giving drama students, professional opportunities beyond the classroom, and saw a number of students from the group perform at the SHORT AND SWEET Theatre Festival in January and February 2016 at the Depot Theatre Marrickville.

This gave students a true sense of how to rehearse for a short period and then perform for an extended season in a professional venue.

Top 80 Entry The Genesis Project by US playwright Christian Simonsen had Erin Gray, Rania Lukasa and Nicolas Menouhos, along with students from NAGLE COLLEGE and ST MARK’S COLLEGE giving them insight into the creation of the world - in six days!

Short and Sweet Theatre Festival-Wildcard entry ‘My Skinny Girlfriend’ had Pia Bates from ST ANDREWS COLLEGE and another student from DELANEY COLLEGE. Written by ACT Drama Teacher Nigel Palfreman, the playwright came along to see his production at The Depot Theatre in February, and was very pleased with it!

These same students also participated in the Sharp and Short Theatre Festival held at the Riverside Theatre, Parramatta. A number of other Year 7-11 ST ANDREWS COLLEGE students as well as those mentioned above including:

Ben Nyamogo

Federiko Batay

Guet  Mac Acuek

Ellana Dillon

Pauline Savtsuk

Yesenia Latoure

Erin Gray and Pia Bates were selected to be the hosts for the heat night and then for the Grand Final held on June 10th at Riverside Theatre. They were fine ambassadors for St Andrews College, yet again.

If you have any questions please feel free to email Henrietta Stathopoulos the Ensemble Director at: hstathopoulos@parra.catholic.edu.au

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Pauline Ryan who stepped in to help supervise the students, and the Principals from St Andrews College (of course!), Nagle College, St Mark's College and Delaney College for enabling their students to participate.
