R U OK? Day

“R U OK? Day” was held on Thursday the 8th of September. The day is designed to help achieve a world where we are all connected and are protected from suicide. This can be achieved by encouraging and equipping everyone with the skills to regularly and meaningfully ask “Are you OK?”

There are many people in our world who struggle with the different pressures that life brings. They feel alone, and often feel they have no one to turn too. By inspiring people to take the time to ask “Are you OK?” and listen, we can help those people struggling with life feel connected. It all comes down to regular face-to-face meaningful conversations about life and asking “Are you OK” is a great place to start.

At assembly in Week 7, students from the Vinnies Group wore temporary tattoos of scars on their faces to represent a very important notion that people often forget….that is "that not all pain can be seen".

Just because you cannot readily see the affects of emotional abuse it does not mean it is not real. It is important to encourage people who are suffering with emotional abuse to talk about how they are feeling, similarly it is important that they have people around them who will listen.

Many people have experienced sad times, or have had to conquer personal battles, or have been hurt by the actions of others. Our inner scars can be healed if we seek help from the people around us.

To raise awareness and funds for "R U OK?" Day the Vinnies Group held a cupcake stall and sold yellow cakes and official "R U OK?" wristbands. It was fantastic to see so many staff and students get behind this initiative and support such an important cause. We were able to raise over $350 that will be donated to the "R U OK?" charity.

Thank you to all the staff and students who helped out with this fundraiser.

Always remember to reach out to your friends and please know that you're never alone.
