The 9th Annual Inter-School Chess Tournament

Frank Rosser Chess Tournament

On Wednesday the 20th of July St Andrews College Chess Teams competed in the 9th Annual Inter-School Chess Tournament at Penrith RSL.

Congratulation to the following Year 9 students who came 3rd out of 35 teams and were the recipients of the Frank Rosser Trophy. The students were:

  Kristopher Carpio
Unish Shrestha
Sehajdeep Singh

It was an emotional presentation as the competition, which began nine years ago, was the idea of Mr Frank Rosser who passed away recently. His two daughters presented the Trophy to Kristopher, Unish and Sehajdeep and encouraged all students to continue the legacy of their father, which he held so dear.

The other students, who played in the Competition were: Fatog Makog, Darrymen Deligero, Raushik Chandra, Kyrolos Ghannami, Loucio Go, Anmol Singh, Nestor Batoon, Marc Go, Paraminder Narain, Ethan Sibucao and Angelo Reyes.

All Teams played seven matches throughout the day. There were four games before lunch and three games afterwards. All students rose to the challenge and thought it was a great experience. The St Andrews College teams played against Penrith Selective High School, Colyton High School, Cambridge Park High School, Kingswood High School and St Agnes College. There were many fine players and there was such camaraderie after each match as players and coaches explained the difficult winning moves and plays. The students learned a great deal.

We wish to offer a big thank you to Ms Mary Lipec for all your help in the registration before the Tournament.  Also to Mr Michael Said, another big thank you for driving the teams to the venue and helping me to fill out even more paperwork on the day.

All the Chess Players send their love, best wishes and prayers to their Chess Master Mr Aaron. All the players are so grateful that he taught them the Game of Kings.

Mr Aaron you can never be replaced.

Until next time… from Ms Melissa Blackwell
