FOUR aspiring young actors had a great opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in drama during the school break by partaking in the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) Stage Vs Screen Holiday program.

The four students were Parramatta Marist High School student Cameron Di Mauro, St Andrews College Marayong student Joshua Sammut, St John Paul II Schofields students Charlotte Feather and Misha Sami. They have all been a part of Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta (CEDP) CAPTIVATE program.

The ATYP Stage Vs Screen Holiday program was held in the city for a week in early January and ended in a special presentation for family and friends. CAPTIVATE Drama Practitioner Lucinda Armour said the artistic relationship between CAPTIVATE and the ATYP is strong.

“In the last four years the ATYP has been able to offer more than 40 of our students a scholarship to a holiday program including HSC intensives, musical theatre, playbuilding, acting to the camera, monologues and scene work,” Mrs Armour said. “Our students have gained so much from these opportunities, to work with the ATYP and meet with other students from across Sydney."

St Andrews College Marayong student Joshua Sammut said he had been looking forward to the workshop and was very keen to learn about the acting business. “On the very first day I was very nervous to start because we would be working with people we’ve never met before," he said.

“ATYP made this bond between everyone so relaxing and they taught us that in acting you have to bond with people quickly because you have to work with people you’ve never met. I have gained so much knowledge after the workshop about acting in general and the different camera shots, types of characters, how to put on a character and many more acting techniques," Joshua said.

"After doing this workshop I wish to do other workshops and plays as it was such a great experience," he said.

Mrs Armour said it’s wonderful so many of our students get to work with the ATYP. "Through this exciting alliance CAPTIVATE can further enhance the creative opportunities for the students in our Diocese," she said.
