In The Book of Everything, the generosities of imagination and love are pitted against ignorance, oppression and fear. It's a story about being brave and making friends, about being big enough to see that those who are abusive are human too, and ultimately dishonour only themselves.

Richard Tulloch's sensitive adaptation, directed by Ms Henrietta Stathopoulos, Drama and VET Entertainment Teacher, and the cast of CAPTIVATE, is based on a book by one of the Netherlands's most popular children's authors, Guus Kuijer.
The play is set in post-Nazi Netherlands, and focuses on domestic violence in a family headed by an abusive Christian fundamentalist. Thomas Klopper who is "nine … almost ten", lives with his father, mother and sister Margot. His Aunty Pie lives down the road. He sees things nobody else sees: hailstorms in the middle of summer and tropical fish in the Amsterdam canals. Thomas is regularly beaten by his father for these imaginative oddities – but it is his father hitting his mother that distresses Thomas more.

Captivate Drama aim to stage the production as a travelling show to primary schools within the area.
These same students will be auditioning for 2015 Short and Sweet Theatre Festival, which has become a yearly tradition amongst Drama Captivators and in 2014 saw the group take out 3rd place in the judges choice – ably directed by Gabrielle Florek, another graduate of St Andrews College.
