Senior Open 12A Debating Season 2016

2016 Senior Open 12A Debating

The 2016 debating season really tested the limits of our skills. These were skills that had formed during our separate personal experiences in debating since Year 7.

The ordinary rounds saw us earn five wins out of six debates. Facing many of the competition’s more prominent and prestigious schools during these rounds saw us build our cohesion and skill.

Eligible for the finals, we faced worthy adversaries. We faced St Patrick's Marist College Dundas in the Elimination Round and building upon the experiences of the past year, managed to advance. Next, we faced an undefeated St Pius X B Team in the Quarter-Finals, narrowly defeating them. Our final debate was our Semi Final against St Pius X’s A Team. We deemed this to be our most difficult challenge and put all our effort into what many suggested was our best debate ever. However, despite our best efforts, a fractured panel awarded us a narrow defeat.

We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to Mr Vidot for giving students the opportunity to partake in debating and our numerous family members and teachers who went along to support us each week.

Debating for us has definitely been a prominent part of our high school years. It has been a very valuable, memorable and worthwhile extracurricular activity. Its benefits have extended to our writing, thinking and speaking.
