Year 9 Japanese Cooking Lesson

Year 9 Japanese Cooking Lesson

On Monday 22nd of June, Year 9 Japanese class had a cultural lesson with our teacher Miss Mizukami and also with the help of Mr Kau. In this lesson we learned how to make an easy Japanese meal.

Firstly, we watched a video showing how to make “
Onigiri”. Onigiri is a Japanese styled sandwich made with cooked rice (gohan), salt and nori (edible seaweed paper). Miss Mizukami prepared tuna and mayonnaise to put inside the Onigiri. She also let us try some Japanese side dishes called umeboshi (Japanese salted plums) and tukemono (Japanese pickles). We also had miso soup that contained tofu and wakame (seaweed).

To make the lesson more exciting
Miss Mizukami organised an Onigiri Beauty Contest to see which student could make the cutest Onigiri. We all had a great time and made very cute onigiri, which tasted so yummy.

Overall, it was a great learning experience and I can't wait until our next cultural lesson.
