NSW VET Award - Erin Gray

Erin Gray, a Year 12 student at St Andrews College was the recipient of the 2016 NSW VET in Schools Student of the Year.

This year the NSW Training Awards, Be Recognised was held on Thursday the 8th of September, at Four Points by Sheraton, Darling Harbour.

Erin was one of three State Finalists and the first student from Parramatta Diocese to reach this level in the competition.

"It is such an honour to be the NSW VET in Schools Student of the Year. It was a privilege to be nominated, but to be recognised for my hard work really allows me to be an ambassador for Vocational Education and Training”, said Erin.

“To say I'm grateful would be an understatement, I’m simply overjoyed at the platform this award has given me to further my education and the preparation it has provided me for joining the workforce."

As part of her HSC studies Erin completed a Certificate III in Live Production and Services. A mandatory part of the course is work placement. Erin says that participating in work placement and working with people in industry has greatly improved her communication skills and made her more personable and comfortable with her peers. Through her participation in many events outside of the classroom and her enthusiasm she has inspired her peers within the course.

"Erin is an exemplary VET student who works diligently for the service of others. She is a great role model for the vast benefits of studying a school based VET course. I am very proud of her accomplishments," said Mr Nicholas Vidot, Principal.

Erin will now represent NSW in the Australian Training Awards held in Darwin in November.

"The NSW VET in Schools Student of the Year Award recognises the fantastic effort by Erin towards her VET studies and the great work her Entertainment teachers, Ms Henrietta Stathopoulos and Mrs Michelle Trefler do as teachers and mentors", said Mr Vidot.
